This high energy dance class is a rich cultural exploration of Brazilian Samba. Movements are a playful mix of Rio-style Samba no Pe, along with Bahia's Samba-Reggae and Samba de Roda. Shake your hips to intoxicating rhythms, release blockages, and activate joy in your physical, emotional and spiritual body.

Bio:
Vika S. Hernandez is a dance artist from San Diego, CA. She holds a M.A. in Global & International Studies with an emphasis on Global Culture and Religion. Her unique dance classes investigate how cosmology shapes our understanding of the universe as well as our understanding of the human body. A lifelong dancer, her passion for the rich dancing traditions of the African Diaspora began in 2007 while studying Afro-Brazilian dance and Capoeira with Mestre Mariano. She has traveled extensively through central and south America, including all over Brazil to deepen her cultural understanding and immersion. She has trained in Bahia, Brazil for 6 months including Capoeira with Mestre Angola; Orixa sacred dances, Afro-contemporary dances, Samba and Samba-Reggae at the Fundação Cultural do Estado da Bahia (Funceb) with legendary teachers such as Nildinha Fonseca, Rosangela Silvestre, Vera Passos, Denilson Oluwafemi, Tatiana Campelo, Vania Oliveira, as well as at the Diáspora Art Center with Mestre Nem Brito and music with Alabe Bira Santos. Currently residing in San Diego, she is the founder of International Women's Day Arts+DanceXchange, an annual event that weaves the healing power of movement, dance and nature. She believes in the transformative power of dance to heal the body, release trauma and blockages, as well as a self healing tool that activates deep joy, positive emotions, and radical self-love.
