Aparigraha (Mixed - Level)

Hannelore Moebius

December 5 2023 • Duration: 1 Hour, 5 Minutes

Theme:

* Aparigraha means non-hoarding. In the light of renunciation monks, nuns, and yogis live without owning anything. However, our modern society is getting more and more material things. We definitely enjoy many of our belongings; do we need all of it? Paramahansa Yogananda once said: There will be a time when mankind will get away from the consciousness of needing so many material things. More security, peace, and serenity will be found in the simple life.”

* Let’s think about vacation times in nature, camping, backpacking, or living in a simple hut for a seclusion!. :)

Practice:

* Centering with complete Yogic breaths, stretches in supine with joint-openers, pelvic tilts with bridge pose and massage of back and shoulders, knee-down-twist.

* Tennis ball massage from feet up the legs to sacrum in seated, then standing against the wall for the back and shoulders.

* Standing Squat - Utkatasana variations, Talasana vinyasa, Triangle variations straight - lateral- balancing, tree pose, shoulder-stand on block, knee-down-twist, relaxation.

Reflection on Aparigraha at the end of class:

* Think about a time when you had accomplished something that you had longed for, and deeply wished for. Remember this feeling of accomplishment, joy, and gratitude!

* Now, think about things you do not need anymore. Create the intention to give them away to family, friends, or an organization. (Christmas Fair?)
