Mookaite Jasper
Mookaite (they / them) is a non-binary teacher who has been practicing yoga for 10 years. They are passionate about inclusive and accessible yoga, and believe that yoga is for all bodies. Since completing their 200 hours training in York with YogaCampus, Mookaite went on to qualify as a Yin Yoga teacher (also with YogaCampus) and also studied with the Accessible Yoga School. They are training to become a Gentle Years teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga, to teach chair yoga to older adults. Mookaite comes to yoga through a mental health lens, with movement and meditation forming a big part of their own self-care living with bipolar disorder. They founded Queer Yoga North in Saltburn and Middlesbrough, to share the mental health benefits of yoga with others in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Description

Join us for gentle yoga for LGBTQIA+ people aged 18+, every Monday 6-9pm. You can choose to do the poses on the mat or chair, or a combination of both. The venue is wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets. Mats are provided but feel to bring your own. Beginners to yoga are welcome. Everything is free thanks to funding by National Lottery and Middlesbrough Council.

What can you expect at a Queer Yoga session?

We start with a little ice breaker circle, with no obligation to talk. Feel free to just listen. Then we'll enjoy gentle movement for 1.5 hours, finishing the yoga with some restorative poses for rest and healing. After the yoga, there is a tea circle for approx 45 minutes with mindful colouring and jigsaw options. Again, there's no pressure to chat if you'd prefer to just listen to the quiet conversations around you. Let us know if you have any needs that we can accommodate to make the session more comfortable. Email mookaitejasper@gmail.com
