Yoga for The Voice
Friday, October 20 •
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Description
You are invited to unlock the fifth chakra associated with the throat by vocalizing the ancient Indian music scale. You will be introduced to the 2,500 year old music used for meditation, called Raga. We will sing along with the shruti box, an Indian instrument used to anchor the voice. We begin warming the vocal cords by singing the seed sounds of each chakra, a practice based in Tantra. Once warmed, we will sing vocal exercises to learn the Indian music scale and discuss proper breathing techniques for holding notes and projecting the voice. To close the class a mantra will be sung followed by 10 minutes of seated meditation. This experience is suitable for all levels, from seasoned musicians to those with no musical background. All singers can expect a fun and relaxing introduction to Raga and meditation.
