DIY "Bug-Off" Roll-On
Ingredients:
• 10 ml roll-on bottle
• Carrier oil (such as fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, or sweet almond oil)
• 4 drops Lemongrass essential oil
• 3 drops Cedarwood essential oil
• 3 drops Patchouli essential oil
• 1 drop Vanilla Oleoresin
Instructions:
1. Add Essential Oils: Carefully add the lemongrass, cedarwood, patchouli essential oils, and vanilla oleoresin into the 10 ml roll-on bottle.
2. Fill with Carrier Oil: Top off the roll-on bottle with your chosen carrier oil. This dilutes the essential oils and vanilla oleoresin to a safe concentration for direct skin application.
3. Mix the Blend: Insert the rollerball applicator, secure the cap, and shake the bottle vigorously to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.
4. Label Your Roll-On: Label your roll-on with the type of blend, the ingredients, and the date made for future reference.
Usage:
• Apply Directly: Roll onto pulse points like wrists, behind the ears, and ankles. These areas are where the body is warmer, helping to diffuse the scent and enhance the repellent effect.
• Reapply as Needed: Depending on your activity level and the bug density, reapply every 2-3 hours for optimal protection.
Safety Tip: As with any new skincare product, especially one containing potent essential oils and extracts, perform a patch test before using it extensively. Apply a small amount on your forearm, wait for 24 hours, and check for any adverse reactions.
This formulation provides a convenient and effective way to repel insects, particularly useful for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, or gardening. The addition of vanilla oleoresin not only improves the scent but also may help in enhancing the blend's overall effectiveness.

DIY "Bug-Off" Spray
Ingredients:
• 2 oz spray bottle
• 1 oz (30 ml) witch hazel or distilled water (acts as a dispersant)
• 1 oz (30 ml) fractionated coconut oil or another carrier oil (helps to solubilize the oils and provide a moisturizing effect)
• 8 drops Lemongrass essential oil
• 6 drops Cedarwood essential oil
• 6 drops Patchouli essential oil
• 2 drops Vanilla Oleoresin
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Base: In your 2 oz spray bottle, pour in the witch hazel or distilled water.
2. Add Carrier Oil: Add the fractionated coconut oil or your chosen carrier oil.
3. Add Essential Oils: Carefully add the lemongrass, cedarwood, and patchouli essential oils.
4. Add Vanilla Oleoresin: Include 2 drops of vanilla oleoresin. This will not only add a rich vanilla scent but also enhance the overall effectiveness of the spray.
5. Mix the Ingredients: Secure the cap and shake the bottle vigorously to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.
6. Label Your Spray: Label your spray with its contents and the date made for future reference.
Usage:
• Shake Well Before Each Use: Essential oils and oleoresins don't dissolve in water and can separate, so always shake your spray bottle well before spraying.
• Apply Generously: Spray generously on your clothes and exposed skin, avoiding sensitive areas such as the face and eyes.
• Reapply as Needed: Depending on your environment and activity, reapply every 2-3 hours for best protection.
Notes:
• Patch Test: If applying directly to the skin, it's a good idea to do a patch test first to ensure there is no reaction, especially with the addition of vanilla oleoresin.
• Storage: Store the spray in a cool, dark place to preserve the effectiveness of the essential oils.
This recipe offers a natural and effective way to repel insects while enjoying outdoor activities, enhanced by the soothing aroma of vanilla, making it pleasant to use frequently.
