I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer Brouillard. I live in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut and I love weaving webs of connection and support. I discovered yoga a long time ago, but didn't settle into a regular practice till 2004-05 or so. Back then I was doing VHS tape (yes, I am dating myself). I did yoga through my pregnancy in 2006-07 with my son and took a break for a like while after giving birth till my friend Jill started teaching. It seems all my paths were leading to this. My official training began in October of 2017, with Erica Nunnally, and I graduated June of 2018. I decided to follow this path of teaching yoga full time and left my 8 year job of teaching art to preschool through eighth grader and embarked on my yoga teacher journey in the summer of 2018.
Yoga helps my anxiety a lot. It has taught me so much about myself and has helped me grow, shift and change exponentially. I love teaching yoga and helping folks settle into their bodies deeper, shift their energy with movement, breath work, visualizations, and intention. I love empowering people by reminding each person that they are powerful beyond measure. A yoga class with me is much more than just the yoga poses. You will get inspirational messages and a passionate space holder that will encourage you to call back your power and claim sovereignty over your life. I may be "too much" for some people and I am getting ok with that. Because I can only be me. This is who I am. I am the kind of teacher that will get on the floor with you and demonstrate the poses. Why? Well because I don't believe in that teacher/guru outlook. I am grateful to hold space for you, but I am on this journey with you. I don't know better than you. You know what is best for you. But I'm a visual learner and I know a lot of other people are too. I prefer you to look at me and see my proper alignments. Of course you'll see me pop off my mat and walk around and make sure everyone is in good alignment for their bodies too. One thing that I learned when we were coming out of lockdown was that I could give a lot of verbal and visual cues and get people aligned in their bodies without entering their space. You'll find the mix of all of that in my classes now, visual, verbal and hands on assists (if you are ok with them).
I will remind you to meet your body where it is, not where you wish it was. I will encourage you to use all the props and consider them your friends. I'll encourage you to find your edge (that place of stretch, lengthening and challenge) and to remember that your edge may change from moment to moment. I'll remind you to tune in and listen to yourself and trust yourself. I will remind you that you know best and that I'm just here as a suggestion, to hold space for your exploration of self.
I love offering intention cards to draw if you are called to (to help you focus your mind) and selenite crystals (for extra grounding and clearing) if you'd like to journey with those during your practice as well. We start our practice with a centering meditation with a root chakra sound bowl. I always set a healing space for Savasana at the end with sound bowls, body scan, and a 5 minute relaxation. My classes are 75 mins so we can find the right balance between guided meditation, quiet, breath work, and the asanas (the poses in yoga). I really try to embody the eight limbs of yoga within my classes. Did you know that the asanas are just one of the 8 limbs in yoga? Following me on Facebook or check out my classes to learn more about the 8 limbs of yoga and how your can embodied them more fully on and off your mat!
