Description
Qigong is practiced worldwide for energy cultivation: for healing, strength, mobility, prevention of disease, connection, and a myriad health benefits. The benefits are wide-ranging.
This class is of mixed-style qigong, with softer, slower parts and more dynamic parts. Our aims are to release stress and tension from the body & mind; and to cultivate energy, opening up the meridian system to a flood of clearing, vibrant, healthy energy to balance and improve our system.
Qi = energy, Gong = skill/cultivation and/or benefits received through practice.
We will do breathwork, tapping/knocking, stretching, meditation, and gentle, dynamic movement to encourage energy flow. We work with the meridian system, from the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) model, the wisdom of Daoism, Buddhism, science and more. With breath, movement and awareness we can change and direct the flow of qi to support our body, mind, & spirit.
We build our understanding of the 5 Elements - the Wu Xing - (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire & Earth) - together with the seasonal aspects of qigong to understand how to support our energy throughout the year. We also recognise and support the individual on their journey, however they show up, wherever they are.
Often we incorporate well-known qigong forms, such as the 8 Brocades (Ba Duan Jin), 18 Forms (Shi Ba Shi), Daoist 5, Ji Ben Gong, The The 3 Treasures, Animal forms, Zhan Zhuang, Shaolin styles & more. We will practice slightly different aspects each session, to keep us learning, yet with a similar structure, to build on our practice. Overtime, we hope to build our knowledge and experience of qigong.
The class is suitable for beginners and regular practitioners. No need for any special equipment. You will just need a suitable space to move around in, and the class is tutor led, via zoom.
As a suggestion, please avoid eating too close to class (<45 minutes), as this may disrupt the full benefits. Wear comfortable clothing. You may also want a drink and a chair or cushion nearby, if you wish to sit (though not essential). The class is predominantly done standing, though it can be tailored to being seated, if necessary.
Please come and try, and join a lovely, welcoming group to practice with, and experience the benefits for yourself!
