About Yoga In Chorlton

Hi, I’m Sarah, I’ve been teaching Yoga In Chorlton for over 20 years. I was first introduced to yoga at the age of 16 and since that time I’ve practiced all sorts of Yoga styles and learnt from lots of wonderful teachers. Through them I’ve practiced Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Atma Vikasa, Iyengar, Hatha, Vini, Yin and Restorative Yoga as well as somatic movement. In my spare time I love to move my body in lots of other ways too – walking in the countryside, climbing hills, swinging kettlebells and rolling my body free with Yamuna Body Rolling!

Over the last few years I’ve become fascinated with working with my breath. After a major life event I found myself constantly breathless, anxious and suffering panic attacks. I tried to draw on my prior knowledge of mindfulness techniques but found these aggravated rather than healed my agitated state. I was fortunate to come across two books which had a profound effect on me – Patrick McKeown’s “Oxygen Advantage” and Robin Rothenberg’s “Restore Your Prana” and spent the next few years studying with both teacher to restore my own breathing while also learning to teach these amazing techniques. Having come from an Ashtanga background where big, loud breaths were praised it was a revelation to discover that breathing LESS might be more
healthy and more healing.

My Yoga classes incorporate all that I’ve learnt and enjoyed over my lifetime. Yoga and somatic movements that are floor based, stronger flowing “Vinyasa” style practices and attention to and
refinement of the breath.

Having been through two pregnancies and the postnatal period afterwards I also love supporting other women through this time in their lives. I first studied ‘Yoga for Pregnancy’ and ‘Postnatal Recovery and Baby Yoga’ with Uma Dinsmore Tuli in 2007 and 2008 respectively, I then started training in ‘Active Birth’ with Janet Balaskas in 2011. This was put on hold due to the arrival of my second child but I completed the training in 2015. I have now been teaching pregnant and postnatal women for over 15 years, specialising in the use of Yoga for Active Birth. I love being able to bring women together to support each other through this most important period of their lives.
